Here are some guiding questions you can ask your online tutor to help you get started, along with some questions you should avoid.

Content and idea questions

• Is my thesis clear and specific?
• Do my main points support my thesis?
• Do my paragraphs stay on topic?

Organization and Flow

• Are my ideas presented in a logical order? 
• Do my transitions help the reader follow my argument?

Evidence and Support

• Do I use enough evidence to back up my claims?
• Does this example clearly support my thesis statement/main point?

Clarity and Style

• Are there any areas that seem confusing or wordy?
• Does my tone fit the assignment type?

Grammar and Mechanics

• Are there any repeated grammar issues I should work on?
• Are there any patterns in my sentence structure that I should fix?

Citations and Formatting

• Do I use APA/MLA format correctly?
• Does this in-text citation look right?

Questions to Avoid:

• Can you fix this for me?
  • Tutors can guide, but they cannot edit or rewrite your paper for you.
• Can you make sure I get an A?
  • Only your professor can decide that.
• Is this paper good?
  • This question is too vague. Try something more specific, like "Is my argument strong?" or "Does this follow my assignment instructions?"
• Can you tell me everything that's wrong with this?
  • It is better to focus on specific areas. No one can fully revise a whole paper in one session.

Tip: Before your session, consider writing out your main concerns to use your time in the most efficient way possible.
