Annotated Bibliographies in APA

Title Page

Though it is not considered a traditional essay, annotated bibliographies formatted in APA still start with a title page.

APA title page with title page information: Title (centered and bold), an extra space, the student name, university name, course number: course title, instructor name, and due date

Introduction

Some annotated bibliographies require an introduction and a conclusion paragraph, while some do not. Refer to your assignment instructions or contact your professor to ensure whether or not your assignment warrants them.

First page of a paper with APA formatting--the same title that is on the title page appears at the top of this page as well, centered and bolded. A introduction paragraph appears as well with a .5 inch indent.

Citations and Annotations

Each annotation should be one paragraph. The suggested length is four to six sentences, or about 150-250 words.

The first citation appears with a hanging indent. The annotation is a part of the hanging indent as well.

Sources continue in alphabetical order. There is no extra space between annotations and sources.

Conclusion

If required, the annotated bibliography ends with a conclusion paragraph.

A conclusion paragraph appears flush left with a .5 inch indent (not included in hanging indent--the same as the introduction paragraph).
