Tutoring and Writing Center Policies

To ensure that all students have access to tutoring services and that time is used efficiently, the CSP Academic Support Services has implemented the following no-show policy for students:

  • Appointment Cancellations: Students must cancel their scheduled appointments at least 2 hours in advance. Failure to cancel within this timeframe will be considered a no-show.
  • No-Show Consequences: Accumulating three no-shows in a semester will result in a hold being placed on the tutor’s account. The student will be unable to receive further tutoring until they meet with an Academic Support staff member to discuss the situation and discuss steps to prevent further occurrences.

This policy ensures fair access to services for all students and encourages responsibility in managing appointments.

In order to provide consistent access to tutoring and writing support, students are limited to the following number of hours of peer tutoring appointments per week:

  • Writing support - 4 hours of appointments per week
  • Subject tutoring - 6 hours of appointments per week

If students need more than these number of hours, please speak with an academic support staff member at the Tutoring and Writing Desk or by emailing tutoring@csp.edu or writingcenter@csp.edu.

Students are required to email their tutor in the event they are unable to make their tutoring sessions. Cancellations must be made at least two hours before the session's start time. Students can go onto Accudemia to cancel their appointments or message their tutor. Tutoring sessions that are not canceled at least two hours prior to the meeting will be counted as a missed appointment.

FAQs

Students should meet their tutor at the Tutoring and Writing Desk, located on the south side of the library, unless they or the tutor have communicated to meet elsewhere. If the tutor is not there at the designated time, students can message them through Accudemia.

Students can cancel their appointments in Accudemia up to two hours prior to the start time. Follow the directions in this tutorial for more information.

How to Cancel an Appointment in Accudemia

Subject tutoring appointments can be reserved for a minimum of one hour. Writing support appointments can be made for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Students are not required to stay the entire duration reserved by them for a tutoring session if the work is completed early. Multiple appointments can be made in a row if a student anticipates needing more than the minimum amount of time. If a session extends beyond the minimum appointment time reserved, staying late will be up to the tutor’s discretion. Additional appointments may need to be made.

Writing and subject peer tutors will not do your homework for you or guarantee a better grade. Instead, they will help you meet your academic goals by reviewing material, explaining concepts in new ways, encouraging critical thinking skills, and more.
