We’re here to make your tutoring experience smooth and successful. On this page, you’ll find clear explanations of our policies, expectations, and answers to common questions.
Whether you’re wondering how to schedule tutoring, what topics tutors cover, or need clarity on our policies, you'll find it covered here.
If you have a question that is not present on this page, feel free to reach out to tutoring@csp.edu.
Peer tutoring availability varies by semester. We place an emphasis on providing tutoring for introductory-level, undergraduate general education courses. Please be aware that it may not be possible to find a peer tutor for every class and/or upper-level (200-400) courses.
To see what courses are currently offered, check out the peer tutoring page on the Tutoring Support website.
If you would like to request a peer tutor for a course, please contact tutoring@csp.edu.
To ensure that all students have access to tutoring services and that time is used efficiently, the CSP Academic Support Services has implemented the following no-show policy for students:
This policy ensures fair access to services for all students and encourages responsibility in managing appointments.
In order to provide consistent access to tutoring support, students are limited to 6 hours or up to 3 sessions of peer subject tutoring per week and 20 hours of Brainfuse tutoring per month.
Please speak with an academic support staff member at the Tutoring and Writing Desk or email tutoring@csp.edu if you have any questions or concerns about these limitations.
Students are required to email their tutor in the event they are unable to make their tutoring sessions. Cancellations must be made at least two hours before the session's start time. Students can go onto Accudemia to cancel their appointments or message their tutor. Tutoring sessions that are not canceled at least two hours prior to the meeting will be counted as a no-show appointment.
Peer tutoring starts the second full week of classes Fall and Spring semesters.
Tutors may be available anytime between 8am and 11pm, depending on their availability. Peer tutors set their schedules at the beginning of the semester and are asked to keep consistent availability week to week for students wanting to schedule sessions. Please note that tutors may change their schedule during holidays, university-wide breaks, or finals.
Brainfuse online tutoring offers help for certain subjects 24/7, while other subjects might have more limited availability. To check the availability of a subject, go to the Brainfuse website, choose the topic and subject you need help with and click “Check Tutor Availability.”
Tutors will ask students what they need help with in their class and identify goals to work towards during the session. Any materials that you can provide tutors, whether it be class notes, slides, or assignments, will help tutors better understand what your class is working on and how they can help you.
A tutoring session may be used to:
Students are asked to actively participate in the session with tutors. Tutors will not do work for students. This means that tutors will not help students finish homework problems, check the work of students on graded assignments, or give answers to questions on assignments that students are asked to complete themselves.
For more information on how tutors can and cannot help, check out this document: How Subject Tutors Work with Students.
Bring the assignment or project that you are working on and any assignment guidelines, notes, or slides from class that might help.
Students should meet their tutor at the Tutoring and Writing Desk, located on the south side of the library, unless they or the tutor have communicated to meet elsewhere. If the tutor is late or doesn’t show up, students should email tutoring@csp.edu and message their tutor in Accudemia.
Students can cancel their appointments in Accudemia up to two hours prior to the start time. Follow the directions in this tutorial for more information.
How to Cancel an Appointment in Accudemia
Subject tutoring appointments can be reserved for a minimum of one hour.
Students are not required to stay the entire duration reserved by them for a tutoring session if the work is completed early. If a session extends beyond the minimum appointment time reserved, staying late will be up to the tutor’s discretion.
Check to see if the course you need help with is listed under the “Courses Offered” section of the peer tutoring website. If you see the course is offered but there are no sessions available on Accudemia, make sure you check both the current week and the following week of the schedule.
If it’s early in the semester, tutoring schedules may not be finalized. Tutors are hired and trained throughout the first month of the semester, so be sure to check back in a few weeks for updates in the tutoring schedule.
If the course is not offered for peer tutoring, it still might be available for Brainfuse online tutoring.
If you have questions about the courses offered for tutoring, email tutoring@csp.edu.
Group tutoring sessions can be set up in Accudemia, our scheduling platform for tutors. Sign up for a session as you would normally do individually. Before clicking to confirm your session, please place the name of the friend(s) you would like to bring to the tutoring session, so long as they are CSP students taking the same class.
Alternatively, you can have your friend(s) schedule an appointment with a tutor at the same time and date as you.
At this time, peer subject tutoring is limited in graduate and professional programs. Graduate and professional students are encouraged to use Brainfuse Live-chat tutoring if they need help with course content.
Graduate and professional students in need of writing resources are encouraged to check out the writing center website.
