Art images can be found in many different places, from library databases to online museum collections. Use these links to find images. Check individual websites for copyright and download information.

In Library Databases:

CREDO Reference This link opens in a new window
General Reference database that includes general and subject-specific encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri, atlases and many other reference materials in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
JSTOR This link opens in a new window
General purpose archive of peer-reviewed journal articles from a wide variety of humanities and social science disciplines.

In Museum Collections:

Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Met has over 400,000 images from their collection available for searching. Many of these have been identified as in the public domain and free of other known restrictions for scholarly use. Images identified as OASC are available for download.
The Getty: Open Content Images
Over 100,000 images that are in the public domain or copyright is owned by the Getty Museum.
National Gallery of Art Open Access Images
NGA Images is a repository of digital images of the collections of the National Gallery of Art. More than 45,000 open access digital images up to 4000 pixels each are available free of charge for download and use.
