ED 487: Reading Across the Content Areas

Find Sources for Pre-Reading Activities

Use these databases to find background context related to your novel for the YA Literature Pre-Reading Activity assignment. The sources you find in library databases are more credible than those you find online using Wikipedia or Google.

Note: Databases contain different articles so it's important to try more than one. If you need help, ask a librarian!

  • CREDO Reference is useful for cultural and historical context
  • Children's Literature Review is useful for author, plot, and literary themes context

Find YA Books in OneSearch

  • Search by title or series name if you know the book that you want.  For example, Darth Paper strikes back or Origami Yoda.
  • If you can't find a match by book title, try including a series name or author name in your search.

Searching in one search for chapter and series books by title or series name.

OneSearch is a good place to start your research. Use this search box to find books, peer-reviewed articles, videos, and more. After you search, you can use filters to narrow your search.

Find Magazine and Journal Articles

Use these databases to find articles that are about how to use YA literature in the classroom, literature circles, in the content areas, etc.
