During Open Access week, we have primarily commented on open access to research. Open Educational Resources (OER) are related to open research. Like open research articles, they make use of open licenses. Their open licenses allow others to retain, reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute them. Using OER course materials is one way we can address course affordability issues for students at CSP. It may feel overwhelming to find those resources. We have a page of search strategies and portals available to assist you in locating resources. CSP librarians also have a lot of experience locating OER and other alternative course resources. Contact the library at library@csp.edu if you want to talk to a librarian about finding materials for your course.
We will also be hosting an OER book club beginning in January. The book club will be an opportunity to explore OER and how you can use OER in your classes. It will be an excellent opportunity to explore, discuss, and learn with colleagues. We will meet five times, approximately every two weeks. Space will be limited to five people. Those interested in this opportunity or that have questions can contact Jennifer Carlson at jcarlson@csp.edu.
