Books (Print and Electronic)

Books, whether they are print or electronic, follow the same format with the exception of ebooks having a link or file type listed. 


Footnotes/Endnotes Format:

First note:

1. Author's First and Last Name, Title of Book. (Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication), Page Number(s), File Type or URL (for ebooks).

After the first note:

2. Author's Last Name, Title of Book, page number(s).

Footnotes/Endnotes Example:

First note:

1. Kathleen Gerson, The Unfinished Revolution: Coming of Age in a New Era of Gender, Work, and Family (New York, NY: Oxford University Press, 2010), 112.

After the first note:

2. Gerson, The Unfinished Revolution, 128.


 

Bibliography Page Format:

Author's Last Name, Author's First Name. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication. File Type or URL (for ebooks).

Bibliography Page Example:

Gerson, Kathleen. The Unfinished Revolution: Coming of Age in a New Era of Gender, Work, and Family. New York, NY: Oxford University Press, 2010.

Book Chapter

In the notes, include specific page numbers for where the information came from within the chapter. In the bibliography, include the page range of the chapter itself. 


Footnotes/Endnotes Format:

First note:

1. Author's First and Last Names, "Title of Chapter," in Title of Book, Ed. Editor's First and Last Name (Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication), Page Number(s).

After the first note:

2. Author's Last Name, "Title of Chapter," Page Number(s).

Footnotes/Endnotes Example:

First note:

1. Frank Freidel, "The Sick Chicken Case," in Quarrels That Have Shaped the Constitution, Rev. ed. Ed. John Garraty (New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, 1987), 233.

After the first note:

2. Freidel, "The Sick Chicken Case," 235.


 

Bibliography Page Format:

Author's Last Name, Author's First Name. "Title of Chapter," in Title of Book, Edited by Editor's First and Last Name, Page Range. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication.

Bibliography Page Example:

Freidel, Frank. "The Sick Chicken Case." In Quarrels That Have Shaped the Constitution, Rev. ed. Edited by John Garraty, 233-252, New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, 1987.

The Bible

When using Bible verses in your paper, the Bible itself is not included on the bibliography page. Only the verse and version are included in the notes.


Footnotes/Endnotes Format:

First note:

1. Abbreviated Name of Book Chapter:Verse (Translation).

After the first note:

2. Abbreviated Name of Book Chapter:Verse.

Footnotes/Endnotes Example:

First note:

1. Mic. 4:5 (RSV).

After the first note:

2. Mic. 4:8.
