Images and Photos from the Internet

For Google Images, navigate to the original website to create the citation for your reference list. 

If there is no date, author, title, etc. find instructions for how to craft the citation on the Missing Information page.


Reference Page Format:

Author, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title [Format]. Website. URL

Reference Page Example:

Denali National Park and Preserve. (2013). Lava [Photograph]. Flickr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/denalinps/8639280606/

 

In-text Citation Examples:

Denali National Park and Preserve (2013) ...

If the image has no title, add a brief description of the image in brackets instead.


Reference Page Format:

Photographer, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title of work [Photograph]. Website or Magazine, Vol(Issue). URL

Print Advertisement

Reference Page Format:

Company (Year, Month). Title of advertisement [Advertisement]. Title of Magazine/Newspaper, volume(issue), page number.

Reference Page Example:

Dell. (2019, November). Small business isn't small to us [Advertisement]. Wired, 27(11), 21.

 

In-text Citation Examples:

...(Dell, 2019).

TV Advertisement

Reference Page Format:

Creator of Product. (Year). Title [Television commercial]. City of Broadcast, State: Network.

Reference Page Example:

Peloton. (2019). The gift that gives back [Television commmercial]. Mankato, MN: KEYC.

 

In-text Citation Example:

...(Peloton, 2019).

Video Advertisement Viewed Online

To cite advertisements viewed online, such as on a streaming service like YouTube, cite the website on which you viewed the advertisement (e.g. YouTube).

If the advertisement appeared within another video, locate a standalone version of the video advertisement.


Reference Page Format:

Uploader (Year, Month Day). Title of advertisement [Format]. Website. URL

Reference Page Example:

Chevrolet. (2022, February 13). The First-Ever All-Electric Chevy Silverado – New Generation (The Sopranos) [Television commercial]. Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bZYqFsU72Y

 

In-text Citation Example:

...(Chevrolet, 2022).

Art from Museums

If you are citing a piece of art from a museum, your reference should include the artist, year, title, format, Museum Name, Museum location, and URL if available.

The description of the medium or format is flexible and should be included in square brackets after the title: e.g. [Painting], [Oil painting], [Oil on canvas], etc.

Artist, A. A. (Year). Title of work [Type of work]. Museum, City, US State, Country. URL

Reference Page Example:

da Vinci, L. (1503-1506). Mona Lisa [Painting]. The Louvre Museum, Paris, France. https://www.louvre.fr/en/explore/the-palace/from-the-mona-lisa-to-the-wedding-feast-at-cana
