Religious Works

Print Religious Work

The year of original publication of a religious work may be unknown or in dispute and is not included in the reference in those cases. However, versions of religious works such as the Bible may be republished; these republished dates are included at the end of the reference entry and within in-text citations.

If a religious work has a different method of identifying the location within the text (such as book, chapter, and verse) use that information instead of page numbers for in-text citations.

Be sure to put the title in italics on your References page and within your paper to signify it is a book.

Reference Page Format:

Version Title. (Publication Year). Publisher. (Original work published Year)

Reference Page Example:

The Qur'an (M.A.S Abdel Haleem, Trans.). (2004). Oxford University Press.

In-text Citation Examples:

According to The Qur'an (2004)...

...(The Qur'an, 2004).
